Judit Durst and Zsanna Nyírő will be guests at the Humanities Courtyard of the Ördögkatlan Festival on August 7, 2026, where they will lead a discussion titled “Are You the First? – Social Mobility Up Close.” The event will focus on the mobility experiences of first-generation college graduates, as well as the individual and community dimensions of social mobility.

The volume of studies entitled The History of the Satu Mare Swabians from their Settlement to the Present Day, edited by Bernadett Baumgartner, Réka Marchut, and Imre Tempfli, and published by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Satu Mare, presents the latest research findings on the subject across 16 studies. Among the authors of the volume are our colleagues, Ferenc Eiler and Réka Marchut.

Three book launches will also take place in the Satu Mare region:

August 4, from 6:00 PM in Satu Mare (Szatmárnémeti), at the Megmaradás Háza

August 6, from 6:00 PM in Carei (Nagykároly), at the Castle

August 7, from 6:00 PM in Ardud (Erdőd), at the Roman Catholic Church

Our colleagues will also participate in the book launches.

From July 17 to 19, 2026, a commemoration marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of Erdélyi Helikon was held in Marosvécs. On July 18, our colleague Tamás Gusztáv Filep was one of the participants in a panel discussion on the writers associated with the Helikon movement.

Zsófia Papp's latest study in Representation examines how citizens in five European democracies (France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, and Poland) evaluate multidimensional legislative responsiveness.

On July 17, István Antal-Róbert, Nándor Bárdi, Csongor Molnár, and Szabolcs Czáboczky held a panel discussion on Hungarian government policies toward Hungarian co-ethnics in the 20th and 21st centuries at the Gombaszög Summer Camp.

On 14th July, our colleague Nándor Bárdi held a panel discussion with Zoltán Kántor on national policy in recent decades at the Rákóczi Association’s teacher training camp in Sátoraljaújhely.

Our colleagues, Judit Durst and Fanni Dés will participate at the EASA 2026 Conference in Poznań. The programme can be found here.

Judit Durst will be one of the lab convenors of the Household Finance Lab, and copresents with Fanni Dés their paper Violence and care in the prostitution industry in semi-peripheral Hungary within a polarized world.

On June 11, 2026, Zsanna Nyírő and Judit Durst presented at the conference Understanding and Enacting Social Change in Education: Working with Bourdieu, organized by the British Sociological Association – Bourdieu Study Group in Livorno. The title of their presentation was: Agents of Change or Segmented Success? Ethnic Capital and Bounded Mobility among First-in-Family Roma Graduates.
