Abstract
This chapter addresses the schooling experiences and integration of newly arrived children in Vienna. Our research uncovers the experiences of those arriving in the country as part of intra-EU mobilities and as “third-country nationals.” The positions of these “two types” of migrant groups, sharply demarcated by legal status, are often treated in the integration literature as distinct. While acknowledging the significance of specific vulnerabilities linked to the legal limbo of uncertainty for “third-country nationals” and their frequent exposure to systemic racism, ethnographic evidence gathered in our study indicates that the two groups encounter comparable educational experiences within the public education system in Austria.
